Arrival in Ljubljana

Peter Mullen tells of his first thoughts since arriving - and how his trip to Slovenia was

What better way to greet someone thats been up since 5am than to wear the sour puss, for which you were specifically chosen for the role of Ryanair "hostess", across your mal-decorated with cheap makeup, face.

There was little cheer from the Ryanair staff at Dublin airport but then I am yet to meet one with any advanced social graces, so it should have come as no surprise.

We took off at 8am and after a transfer in Gatwick we arrived in beautiful Slovenia where the 30 degree heat smacked us in the face the minute we stepped off the plane. It took us little time to get our car and drive to the Laguna resort in Ljubliana and it hasnt changed much since Emma and I were here in 2006. Its part caravan park part hotel with a huge pool area and restaurant. We are staying in one of the self catering mobiles with Ruth, Lorna and Claire and it looks exactly like Southfork but with more frontage! The pool area is an amazing complex with different zones for swimming, relaxing or treating aching muscles.

The weather forecast has kept its promise and since we have been here the sun has shone down on us. Last night, after the weary travelers settled in, we went to the restaurant for food and beer. It was the one night we will probably  be able to have a few drinks as tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and hopefully Saturday we will have games throughout the day.

Today was a day for relaxing by the pool for me, while some of the squad managed to get out to the grounds for some BP. One hour in the heat was all the time they could muster so it must have been hot out there. Following a BBQ at Southfork, the captain announced the starting lineup for the first game in the morning and welcomed the new members to the BatPak tournament squad. Claire, Ruth, Dago & Panda (who from now on will be known as Big and Little Spoon) and Steve received their first BatPak caps.

Now thats over its just a matter of getting the right amount of sleep and making sure all the gear is ready for the morning. Bring on the Chromies!

Come on the Batpak. I haven't raised funds for you to go out there and lose! A special good luck shout to Elaine and Dave Pooper - crack one over square leg or whatever.

Keep up the good work, didn't mean to give it a low rating!
