Following a welcome aperitif and a sumptuous two-course dinner in the Blue Bar Bistro, Captain Emma Kilbride commenced proceedings by thanking everyone for an enjoyable season, with a special note for Steve 'Tweeter' Trundle for keeping BatPak fans worldwide up to date with match scores and JB/Dave for getting the website up and running. It was time for the awards, and this year's trophies would put Oscar to shame, such was the intricate detail given to each one.

The first awards were the overall batting awards, the usual Male & Female Best Batter, and a new award for 2010, the Loved-Up Award. A true sign of the romance that breezes through BatPak Field, with an astounding six couples in the squad, this award celebrates the couple with the best combined batting average. Best Male Batter with an average of .553 was Right-Centre Peter Mullen, who pipped Drew Hennessy for the award thanks to some oustanding lead-off hitting and agile base running. Winning her first of two awards, Anne Kiely scooped the Female Best Batter, driving home an average of .536. And, proving that the merger of BatPak and The Dublin Bay Packers has been a success in its inaugural year, the soon to be newlyweds Julie Walsh & Steve Trundle romped home with the Best Batting Couple thanks to an average of .561.
The next awards, Male & Female MVPs, were voted for by all members of the BatPak squad, and both trophies will rest on mantlepieces in the same street in North Dublin as Dave Pepper and Anne Kiely received the Male and Female awards. Anne, after collecting her second trophy of the night, was heard to proclaim that this was her "Best Night Ever!!". Quite how her moustacheoud Husband Jon felt we can only guess, however the couple did leave the venue in seperate cars.
Finally, two new awards for 2010 were presented by Captain Emma. The first, a tip of the cap to the aspiring journalists who have provided match reports for batpak.net throughout the season. Our first, the mysterious Bill Borfitz, and this season Peter Purvess alongside Dave Lee Travis nominated a male & female MVP for each game that they reported on. The recipient of the most nominations throughout the season picked up the BWGAW MVP Award (BatPak Writers' Guild of Associative Writers). Elaine Kiely picked up the recognition from our esteemed group of journalists, doubling up on her Best Female Batter Award from the ECCS Tournament in Slovenia in August. The last award, the inaugural 'Take One for the Team' Award, was duly given to Tom Ryan for his magnificent play in the field that involved trying to control a fly-ball with his head. An outstanding achievement that thoroughly deserved the last trophy of the night.
The season was celebrated with an all-night disco that lasted into the early hours of the morning, empty bottles of Cristal littered the bar and security had to turn away the dance troupe Diversity who, having finished their performance at the O2, had the notion of joining BatPak's celebratory evening. Alas it was not to be.
On behalf of everyone who has played this year for BatPak, a huge Thank You goes to Emma for captaining the team in the League and Cup, the latter which we held for the second successive year, and falling at the final hurdle in the former. Check out the photos of the EOSP by clicking here.
