The move has been prompted by a variety of reasons, the principle one being the opportunity to play on a fully marked pitch, without the interruption from 'players' of other sports who show no respect for minority sports, namely the GAA and Soccer teams that frequent St Annes Park. Captain Peter Mullen said of the move "This will guarantee BatPak a home ground where we can comfortably complete our home league and cup fixtures. Over the last couple of years we have struggled to complete all our league games without competing against other codes using our match pitch as a training ground. Having a marked out diamond and foul lines is a big plus. It will give the games a better sense of occasion and hopefully make passers by realise we take pride in our sport! Who doesnt enjoy playing on a properly marked pitch?"
Peter continued to reflect on one of the pitfalls of the move "While we will struggle to celebrate many wins in our spiritual home of Harry Byrnes, Im sure the lure of cheaper pints and hot food will have BatPak'ers settling in for a few post match pints most weeks."
BatPak joins its sister club the Dublin Bay Packers in moving to ALSAA, and will review the situation at the end of the year. We look forward to welcoming all the teams that will be playing us at our new home, and of course to stay on after the game.
Training will remain at its current location, the Sybill Hill side of St Anne's Park
