Week 4 - BatPak vs Oddsox Greens

Pak ease past Weakened Greens

By Peter Purves.

Oddsox Greens 9 - 25 BatPak

"Whos job is it to bring the Match Report anyway?"

"Did you not print them out, I thought we had loads?"

"I sent you the file a few weeks ago!"

"I have it on file, I was asked to print Scoresheets not Match Reports."

An unusually sticky Tasmanian Umpire decided he was not going to start the game without the Official Match Report. Put it down to his unruly disposition or just the chance to look like he was making a big decision, but at the end of the day he was right! So off trotted our starting shortstop to his lair, where he has all matter of forms, sheets, planners, PHP calendars and toffee pops.

An elated Pete was given the start at SS, something he felt was now more likely this year as his gorgeous, hot, caring other half was Captain. Surely all he had to do was offer the odd back rub and he could play infield all year. This might have been the case on the night, or it might have been the fact that the other option was Niall at SS - so in keeping with this commentators penchant for getting on Nialls case whenever possible - lets be honest, theres more chance of Kieran screwing up a Northside Platter. (Chef Browne is the maestro)

I digress. The Greens managed to assemble a team for the game even while many of their usual starters were MIA. Unfortunately one of their recruits got lost in transit so they played the entire game with only nine players. In my experience it tends to be easier said than done when speaking of hitting the gaps against a 3 man outfield. As one Green was heard after the game; “They hit the gaps, its just we were in the gaps”. This for the most part was true, any big shots that BatPak did manage were generally over heads rather than through the channels. JB, Drew and Dave all pounding the ball near the aforementioned 325ft marker !!!! Even wee wrists Mullen managed to knock one near the Kukri Park shrubbery.

While both teams had people hitting the ball well and hard, BatPaks consistency through the lineup shone and with an automatic out stifling the Greens offense they had little chance keeping up once BatPak hit the 4th. Tom had entered the game for an injured Niall and hit 3/3. Fresh off his faceplant into a line drive at the Flyers Blitz, he shook off any grogginess and put in a solid display at bat. Meanwhile the BatPak grouting was in fine form, Elaine, Emma, Carol and Annie all hit the ball hard and frustrated the Greens infield, who were already hampered by the wet conditions. Our usual outburst had been delayed until the second 4th inning but once the 9 runs were in you felt the game was over. Not even a 25cl bottle of Jade Goodies ‘Shhh’ could change the mood in the Greens camp.

Post match formalities in Harrys were extended until 1230am with designated drivers already dressed for Wednesday work.

MVPs: Tom (3B) and Elaine (1B)
